Hey guys! We hope you had a great week. Today will be our first ever "Feature"!! Today's feature is on someone who is very dear to our hearts and is one of our role models actually. She's truly an amazing person and has inspired us in so many ways. We hope that you can gather a lot from what she has shared with us.
Can you please introduce yourself?
What school are you in now?
I recently graduated from UWC USA after studying the international baccalaureate for two years. In the fall of 2015, I will be attending Duke University (North Carolina) and hope to pursue a career in medicine.
School was tough, it will always be and it only gets harder as you progress. I had a wonderful time at UWC USAbecause despite being in the rigorous IB program, I made life-long friendships and learnt more about myself and others. It’s hard juggling social life and school. Actually in UWC, there is this concept of the three S’s – sleep, study and socialize and students there say that only two can exist in your life while at UWC. I think it is highly important to prioritize. What is most important to do or to you? Those are the things you should be doing and quite frankly, it doesn’t have to be academics. I have friends who came to UWC just for the experience and their academics was their least concern. This is not to say that academics aren’t important, but that our priorities differ so it is important to know what matters most to you. For me, my academics mean a lot to me. I want to get the best out of my education so I always put my work before socializing and sleep. But, I made sure I took breaks when necessary so I don’t overwhelm myself. I don’t believe in all work and no play, so I made sure I took the time off to get to know people and rest without my academics suffering. It is tough, but completely possible!
What do you think the biggest challenge for youth is today?Any advice for them?
I think the biggest challenge for youth today is “uniqueness”. I quoted this because that term because it can mean different things. I mean this in the sense that, a lot of people want to follow the crowd and do what others are doing. To me, it is very important that we take the time to discover and understand ourselves, to set our own goals and know what makes us stand out and stick by it. It is highly important to be proud of who we are, our morals and standards and not just go wherever the waves take us. Be you, be proud of yourself, always!
Give us 3 cardinal lessons you’ve learnt so far
a) Our best days are still ahead of us
b) Life is school in itself, learning never stops
c) No good thing can come out of worrying
Any advice for us younglings?
Make sure you learn from your mistakes without feeling regret. Embrace every decision you have made in life and plan to make better ones in future. Learn to listen and understand, even when you’re not understood.
Thank you so much for sharing with us Cheeny!
